Lloyd would give Jamie a chance in Davis CupBBC TV pundit John Lloyd, expressed interest this week in succeeding Jeremy Bates as Davis Cup captain. Lloyd told BBC sport, "The Davis Cup is something I've loved and I'd be an idiot if I wasn't interested. The competition fascinates me." Lloyd says that one of the changes he would make would be to bring a new generation of players into the Davis Cup squad. He said "Let's make no mistake about it, the defeat to Israel marks a new low for Britain in the Davis Cup. We have to rebuild and put in some untried younger players alongside Andy Murray. Jamie Baker and Josh Goodall look like the kind of kids who would be willing to run through a brick wall for the team and should be given a chance. The experience could harden them into good Davis Cup performers. It could take two or three years and a few defeats for it to happen, but it would be worth it."

This is really fantastic news for Jamie who's been gutted to miss out on the Davis Cup squads against Serbia and Montenegro and Israel after being selected as a hitting partner for the tie against Switzerland in September 2005. I think John Lloyd was really impressed with Jamie's tennis and his approach to his matches during the grass court season. His ambition and desire to succeed really stands out.
I reckon that Jamie would revel in competing in the Davis Cup atmosphere with passionate British supporters. The Ukraine tie would be perfect to start him off in as the Ukraine's top 2 players are both ranked outside the top 200 and would be definately beatable for Jamie.
Maybe a squad of Andy Murray, Jamie Baker, Josh Goodall and Jamie Delgado for the Ukraine tie.
