The Battle to be Scottish Number Two 2006By far the most interesting rivalry between the Scottish players is currently the battle between 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

It looks like Colin is going to be overtaken by Alan shortly as on Monday 21st August his 25 satellite points come off and as he's not going to be able to compete in Bronx challenger qualifying due to reaching the latter stages of the doubles in Binghampton, his ranking will slip down to the 430s.
Alan Mackin is doing well in Wrexham this week, he's the big favourite to win it, however unfortunately for him he needs to do that just to stand still in the rankings as he's defending points from reaching the quarters of a challenger in San Marino this time last year. He'll maintain his ranking of 370ish.
However, I expect Alan will be back in the top 300 by the end of the year, since joining forces with Boggo and his coach Mike Raphael earlier this year his form has really taken an upturn especially since the start of the grass-court season.

I have updated the graph. Jamie gained points from Binghampton and Alan lost points from last year's San Marino challenger but he has points still to go on from GB F12 so he will recover his position.

I have updated the graph.
Colin lost his points from the GB no. 3 satalite in 2005. Alan gained points from last GB week's GB futures and has moved back to Scottish number 3.

Sadly Colin has decided to take a break from tennis so we can expect his ranking to slide pretty far in the next couple of months.
On the upside Alan qualified and reached the quarter final of the Orleans challenger giving him a much need boost. He has closed in on Jamie who hasn't competed in September as he has been training for the Davis Cup.

A change of lead is imminent!
Alan has caught right up to Jamie and this week he qualified for a challenger while Jamie slipped up so next week he will regain the Scottish number two spot.

It looks like Alan has taken a decisive lead as Jamie continues to struggle with American challengers.
Also Jamie has 8 points to defend at the end of November whereas Alan has nothing till the new year.
